New Character Leniency Policy

Creating a new character can be exciting—but it can also take time to gather props, gear, and get a feel for your class. Volaire offers a leniency policy to help you transition into play smoothly and confidently.

This policy applies to every new character for their first four events.

🛠️ Gameplay and Build Flexibility

You may realize after a session or two that your build or class doesn’t quite fit the story you want to tell. That’s okay!

During your first two events, you may:

  • Respend your XP — You may change how your 500 starting XP is allocated.
  • Change your class — If the class you chose doesn’t fit your roleplay or playstyle, you may choose a new one.
  • Fully rebuild your character — Including race, class, and all purchased skills.

Requirements:

  • Rebuilds must follow the standard character creation rules.
  • You must notify staff before your third event to make any changes.
  • You may not retain any in-play items, boons, tags, or plot knowledge if you fully rebuild.

To request a revision, speak with staff at check-in or submit a request through the Support Ticket System.

🎒 Physrep Grace Period

Immersion is key to Volaire, but we understand it can take time to gather the required gear. For your first four events, the following leniency applies to critical phys-reps:

🧪 Crafting Labs (Potion, Alchemy, Poison)

A lab physrep is normally required to use crafting skills. However:

  • Events 1–2: You are treated as if you have a fully functional lab.
  • Events 3–4: Without a lab physrep, you may use only 50% of your available Production Points.
  • After Event 4: You may not use Production Points unless you bring a valid lab physrep.

Each lab physrep may only be used by one character per event.

📖 Spellbooks

All spellcasters must have a spellbook physrep to study spells between events.

  • Events 1–2: You are assumed to have a complete spellbook and may study all known spells.
  • Events 3–4: Without a spellbook physrep, you may only study General (non-specialized) spells.
  • After Event 4: You may not study any spells without a physrep spellbook.

Spellbooks may not be shared between characters.

🛡️ Armor

To receive full armor value from your class abilities, you must wear appropriate armor physreps.

  • Events 1–2: You receive your class’s full armor bonus, provided your costume is genre-appropriate.
  • Events 3–4: Without proper armor physreps, you receive 50% of your class’s maximum armor.
  • After Event 4: You default to Costume Armor only (max 5 points) unless your physrep is approved.

Armor must visually reflect your class and role.

⚔️ Weapons

New characters may borrow weapons from staff:

  • Events 1–2: Up to 2 weapons may be borrowed for free.
  • After Event 2: Weapons may still be borrowed, but a $5 rental fee per weapon applies.

All borrowed weapons must:

  • Pass a safety inspection
  • Be checked out through Monstering staff
  • Be returned at the end of the event

Unreturned weapons may result in:

  • Loss of event XP
  • A $10 replacement fee

📌 Final Expectations

By the start of your fifth event, all characters must have:

  • Armor physreps (if applicable)
  • Spellbook (if a caster)
  • Crafting lab (if using Production Points)
  • Approved weapons or physrep tags

If you’re unsure how to meet these requirements, ask staff—we’re here to help!
