Status Effects


Status effects are conditions that apply to a character when specific taglines are used during combat or spellcasting. These effects only apply if the damage bypasses all armor and reaches your Health Points.

If you're ever unsure what a tagline does, stop and ask out-of-play (OOP) for clarification.


🎯 When Do Status Effects Apply?

Status effects are not applied unless the damage hits your Health Points. If you're still protected by:

  • Physical Armor
  • Magical Armor
  • Spell Shields
  • Cloaks

…you do not suffer the effect—even if you hear a status tagline like “10 Paralyze”.

Example: Joe has 30 physical armor and a 20-point magical protection aura. A ghoul calls “10 Paralyze!” Joe can take five hits before the Paralyze effect applies.


📛 Common Status Effects

Here are some of the most common effects you'll encounter in-game:

• MASSIVE Cannot be blocked by weapons or shields. Damage still applies even if parried or deflected. Can be dodged.

• SLEEP You fall into a trance-like sleep for 10 minutes. You:

  • Cannot move, speak, signal, or act
  • May sway slightly for roleplay effect
  • Can be shaken awake on a 10-second count:

“Shaking one… shaking two…”

  • Wake up early if you take 10 points of direct body damage

• PARALYZE You are completely frozen for 10 minutes. You:

  • Cannot speak, move, or fight
  • May be posed by others with your permission
  • Can hear everything
  • Can be removed by specific healing spells

• POISON Lasts 10 minutes. You are violently ill. You:

  • Can only crawl and swat away killing blows
  • Cannot fight or cast spells
  • Can be cured with the appropriate spell

• LIFE DRAIN You are left weak and drained. You:

  • Cannot fight, cast spells, or use abilities
  • May only fend off killing blows

• PHYSICAL WEB You are stuck in place:

  • Arms at sides, feet rooted
  • You may talk or scream for help
  • Others can “cut you out” with a 10-second count:

“Cutting out one… cutting out two…”

  • Wears off after 10 minutes if no one helps

• BIND Your arms are stuck to your sides. You:

  • Can talk and run
  • Cannot use arms
  • Lasts 10 minutes or until removed by spell

• AGONY Usually caused by gas. You:

  • Cannot fight or cast
  • Can scream, crawl, and fend off killing blows
  • Lasts 10 minutes or until healed

• ENTANGLE Vines wrap around you. You:

  • Cannot move
  • Can be “cut out” in 10 seconds like Web
  • Can resist or dodge if applicable

🧠 Tips for Managing Status Effects

  • Many effects can be resisted with skills or spells. Call “Resist!” when applicable.
  • Effects often stack with damage—track both separately.
  • Roleplay effects clearly for immersion, but do not allow them to compromise your safety.
