High Elf

The most common type of Elf in Volaire, High Elves are a race steeped in arcane knowledge and tradition. With long lifespans and an insatiable thirst for magic, they often walk a delicate balance between benevolent mentors and proud isolationists.

High Elves arrived in Volaire long before most other races. Once primitive, their culture transformed after the discovery of magic, pushing them toward mastery of the arcane arts. Their extended lives are attributed to this deep magical connection.

Though they seek to help the world, many High Elves struggle with arrogance or a superiority complex, particularly toward the Drow—whom they exiled long ago.

Advantages:

• May purchase the Bow skill at half cost and deal +1 starting damage with it.
• May purchase Decipher Script, First Aid, Healing Arts, Spellcraft, and Read/Write skills at half cost.
• May purchase 7th-level specialized spell slots at half cost.
• May purchase Resist Metabolic.

Disadvantages:

• -2 Health at character creation due to their smaller stature.
• May not purchase Two-Handed weapon skills or their Mastery.
• Must pay +50 XP for each Weapons Proficiency.
• Must pay +100 XP for each purchase of the Terminal Strike skill.
• May never learn the Cleave skill.
• Will not willingly associate with Drow unless absolutely necessary:contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}.

• You must wear pointed ears at all times.

• Emphasize your elven pride—measured speech, refined dress, and a calm, intellectual demeanor.
• Consider how long your character has lived and what wisdom (or biases) they’ve gained over centuries.
• Tension with Drow should be portrayed as deep-seated and culturally ingrained.

Play a High Elf if you want to be a master of magic, an archer of legend, or a relic of a fading golden age.
