Dwarf

Dwarves are a small but stalwart folk, forged in the depths of the Qualtah Mountains. Known for their generosity toward friends and wrath toward betrayers, Dwarves are among the most physically resilient and martially disciplined races in Volaire.

Dwarves dwell primarily in the Qualtah mines, preferring the comfort of stone and steel to open skies and sunlight. Though reclusive by nature, they are not antisocial—Dwarves form tight bonds with their allies and honor oaths with ferocity.

A Dwarf’s pride is rooted in skill: mining, smithing, and defending their kin. Many train in combat from an early age, not just for glory, but out of duty to protect their subterranean homes from all manner of threats.

Advantages:

• Start with +1 Strength and +3 Health.
• May purchase Resist Metabolic.
• May purchase Evaluate and Jewelcraft at half cost.
• May purchase any one weapon skill at half cost.
• Receive first levels of Armorsmithing and Weaponsmithing at no cost.
• May repair double armor points in the field compared to other races.

Disadvantages:

• May purchase up to 6th-level spells at normal cost, but must pay double XP for all specialized spell slots.
• May not purchase the Two-Handed Edged, Two-Handed Blunt, or Two-Handed Mastery skills.

• All Dwarves—regardless of gender—must wear a beard at least six inches long.

• Emphasize loyalty, pride, and tradition.
• Consider how your Dwarf relates to betrayal and debt—both are taken seriously.
• You live by stone and steel—your clothing and mannerisms should reflect that.
• The sun is your enemy. Avoid it when you can, curse it when you can’t.

Play a Dwarf if you want to be a grizzled master of the forge, a steadfast protector, or a battle-scarred traditionalist.
