====== Ritual Magic ====== \\ Ritual Magic is a potent, unpredictable form of spellcasting used to shape fate, bind spirits, summon forces, and alter the fabric of reality. These are **not battle spells**—they are immersive, high-stakes arcane rites that must be prepared, performed, and officiated in-character. ---- ===== 🌀 What Is a Ritual? ===== A ritual is a powerful, often irreversible spell that: * Requires a specific **ritual scroll** * Consumes rare **components** * Takes **time** and **focus** * Must be conducted in a **prepared ritual space** * Requires **validation** by a Ritual Marshal Rituals are **rare** and should feel dangerous, dramatic, and weighty. No part of a ritual is casual. ---- ===== 📜 Requirements to Perform a Ritual ===== **1. Ritual Scroll** * Must have a valid scroll with an **Item ID**, **official stamp**, and **signature** * The scroll contains the spell’s school, effect, and components **2. Required Components** * Listed on the scroll (may include rare gems, creature parts, etc.) * Are **consumed** on casting—**even if the ritual fails** **3. Time Commitment** * Rituals take anywhere from **5 minutes to over an hour** * No shortcuts—you must fully roleplay the casting process **4. Ritual Skill & Lore** * You must have the required **Ritual Magic skill level** * If the scroll includes a sub-school, you need a translatable **lore skill** to read it * e.g., "Summoning | Elemental Fire" requires **Elemental** or **Elemental Fire Lore** **5. Prepared Circle or Space** * Must cast inside a properly prepared ritual area * How to prepare the space is something you must **Find Out In Play (FOIP)** **6. Adequate Light** * You must be able to read the scroll clearly at all times * If your light source fails (e.g., flashlight dies), the ritual fails **7. Marshal Oversight** * A **Ritual Marshal** must validate the ritual * Either present during casting or must verify it **immediately after** **8. Absolute Concentration** * Any distraction results in **automatic failure** * Examples: breaking character, unrelated speech, laughter, pain, loud noise ---- ===== ⚠️ Consequences of Failure ===== Rituals are not guaranteed to succeed. Failure may result in: * Loss of all components * Magical backlash * Curse effects * Narrative complications Rituals are meant to be **risky** and **memorable**. ---- ===== 🧠 FOIP: Learn More In-Play ===== Ritual Magic is intentionally mysterious. Much of its structure, risks, and discoveries are meant to unfold **through roleplay**, not out-of-play reading. Ask mentors. Seek scrolls. Make mistakes. Discover secrets. ---- ===== Related Topics ===== * Magic & Spellcasting * Death & Recovery * Status Effects * Familiars ---- **Volaire LARP** – //To invoke is to risk.
